Atwooki, a flower in the garden of Uganda

Sr Mónica Loyarte, martireWe recall today, February 25, 2019, the 25th anniversary of the birth in heaven of Sr. Mónica Loyarte, an intense, profound and short life. In Uganda they gave her the name Atwooki: a flower, in the garden of that land.

Enriched by the experience of many relationships in which she herself offered all the beauty of her person, she understood that the Lord was waiting for her in Uganda where she walked, grew and offered her life up to the total gift of herself, on February 25, 1994.

Woman of encounter, friend, sister, Monica continues to be present among us as a challenge, a commitment and a responsibility in the only call to the mission of daughters of Mother Gérine.

I thank you, Lord,
for all you have created in me, little by little.
For my story as a lay woman and as a religious
for my capabilities
for my education
for my interior freedom
that, with your grace, I am acquiring...
Lord, give me the grace
to give life to all that I touch
to all those
who approach me.
(Sr Mónica Loyarte)
