Proclaim the Gospel
Pilgrimage of the Dominican family at Bibbiena
The Dominican family in the Province of Rome (Central) on Sunday 13th of May had a day together as a Family in the Sanctuary of Santa Maria del Sasso in Bibbiena (Arezzo) with Fr. Anthony Cocolicchio, the Province’s promoter of the Dominican family which includes the friars, cloistered nuns, active sisters, members of secular institutes, lay and clerical fraternities and other groups in some manner associated with the Order.
Fr. Cocolicchio while sharing the fruit of his contemplation titled "A family with the charism of the church" in which he cited some documents of the Church and of the Order emphasizing that the dominican government is for the Mission and at the service of the Word and the Church … for Evangelisation. Dominicans take seriously and personally the command of Jesus to His disciples in the Gospel of Mark 15: “Go into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to every creature”. Dominic Guzman assumed this Mission of evangelisation with his whole life and left us an example to follow. The democratic nature of the Dominican government calls for dynamism and communion in the Mission. The different entities of the dominican family is a gift of the Holy Spirit to the Church. Each entity remains unique with its specific and dynamic manner of preaching but united with one objective;:the salvation of souls. Preaching with the testimony of our life as individuals and as a community.
The Dominican convent is a house of “Holy Preaching”. Evangelisation starts from our various communities where we begin to preach that Communion is possible. Though the lay dominicans do not live in monasteries and convents they must assume this preaching mission in their different professions, schools, families and the quality of fraternal love that flows among them. The lay dominicans who were very much represented in the get together were encouraged to live their Dominican vocation to the full. To sanctify the world through their experiences of life as the Word of God illuminates all they do.
This exhortation to the lay dominicans by Fr. Cocolicchio is in harmony with the May prayer intention of the Holy Father which states: During this month of May 2018, Pope Francis invites us to pray for Lay people who "are on the front line of the life of the Church. We need their testimony regarding the truth of the Gospel and their example of expressing their faith by practicing solidarity. Let us give thanks for the lay people who take risks, who are not afraid and who offer reasons for hope to the poorest, to the excluded, to the marginalized. Let us pray together this month that the lay faithful may fulfill their specific mission, the mission that they received in Baptism, putting their creativity at the service of the challenges of today's world"
He ended His reflection with the prophecy of Joel 2:28: “And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions".
May the Holy Spirit continue to inspire men and women, young and old, married and single to the unique Mission of making disciples of all nations, fulfilling the holy command of Jesus before ascending to the Father: "Go into the world and proclaim the gospel to every creature"
